The Indian physician Sushruta pioneered rhinoplasty—the world’s first nose job—by taking a piece of skin from the forehead and using it to reconstruct a nose. Modern surgeons still use the technique.
Sushruta’s patients, alas, were not today’s celebrity clients; most would have needed a new nose after losing their original in battle or as a bloody punishment at the time for breaking the law.
