Every winter, as the nights draw in, Guardian journalist Robyn Vinter gives up running because she doesn't feel safe in the dark on her own – but should she still have to?


We join Robyn, our north of England correspondent, in West Yorkshire as she tries to figure out if and how she can feel safer doing what she wants, when she wants.  Violence against women has dominated the news headlines in recent times, with high-profile cases of violence against women such as Sarah Everard and Sabina Nessa in our recent collective memory. And when many of these instances include violence at the hands of police, is anything being done to help women feel less threatened on our streets?
